This procedure is to rid the body of excess skin and fatty tissue of the lower abdomen. The operative procedure works best when dealing with ‘loose and flabby’ skin, which the patient is unlikely to lose with diet or other means. In removing the skin, the patient will be left with a scar in the lower abdominal area, normally maintained within the ‘costume line’, in order that it is not visible when wearing a bathing suit etc.

This operative procedure involves the removal of the excessive lower abdominal skin and fatty tissue, as well as tightening of the abdominal musculature. It is a procedure that is done at the Constantiaberg Mediclinic – usually under a general anaesthetic – with an overnight stay being required. A drain is inserted and may remain in for three or four days. Patients also need to wear a pressure/tight garment for approximately three weeks post-operatively. The recovery time for this procedure is somewhat more prolonged than for breast reduction etc. Patients are mobilised as soon as possible but the return to full physical activity, such as gym sessions etc. is usually prolonged to six weeks.
